Timing is Everything!

Do you have computer labs which are classrooms part of the time and open labs at other times? Would you like free printing during class times, but charge during the open lab times? Check the article in this issue on print rules for some hints about how to manage this.

Issue: # 5 Spring 2008

Hello again,

The holidays are past us now. We're all into our routines for the new year and eagerly anticipating milder spring weather. I hope you had an enjoyable and refreshing holiday break.Steve

The past few months have been exceptionally busy for the GoPrint staff. Traditionally, this has been our quiet time of year -- our customers have the holiday hiatus, the semester ending and beginning activities, budgets haven't been replenished yet and so forth.

Just take a look at our new customers box on the left! Quite a list for the quiet time of year. We are very pleased to welcome these new customers.

The trade show and conference season will soon be upon us  and, as always, we look forward to these opportunities to see old friends, meet new ones and learn more about what's going on in your world. Check our trade show schedule and please plan to drop into our booth to say hello if you're attending one of these shows or conferences.

GoPrint has always believed that our support is World-Class, but it is especially gratifying when a delighted customer takes the time to let us know that her day has been made better by the GoPrint Support Team.

Carla's entire message is interesting and gives specific examples of the team's wizardry; you can read the whole email here.
GoPrint Tech Notes: Implementing Print Rules

GoPrint's Print Rules Can Give You the Control You Want.

GoPrint's new GS-4 offers incredible flexibility for creatively establishing print pricing for your print customers, but we suspect that it is a feature not used to full benefit by our customers. With print rules, you can set pricing to recover costs more accurately as well as to influence the print behavior of your users.

What kinds of things can you do with print rules? Well, for example, you might

  • Allow free prints for specific types of documents; this might include specific documents for coursework, administrative forms your users may need and so forth.
  • Charge more for some types of documents - color documents for example
  • Set a discount for off-hours printing
  • Set a different price for oversize paper
  • Encourage the use of duplex printing with a lower price to conserve paper expense
  • Prevent printing of excessively long documents entirely by using the "Auto-Delete" rule with parameters set by page length and/or file size
  • Charge different prices for different users or categories of user, e.g. staff, students, public walk-in users.

You can learn more about print rules in your GoPrint User Guide;  the context sensitive help in the GS-4 Control Center can help you while you're creating or managing rules and, to help you get started, we've created a short tutorial for the newsletter to illustrate the process.

View a brief tutorial demonstrating how to create and implement a new price rule.

The fifth issue of the GoPrint customer newsletter is out the door! This is the first one for 2008. We do plan to continue publishing these newsletters to provide you with useful tech notes, tips and customer profile examples of useful ways to extract the power of GoPrint and take advantage of its flexibility. We hope you find it useful and informative.

Don't forget the newsletter archive on the GoPrint website; you can re-visit old newsletters or refer colleagues to them.

As always, if you have suggestions for articles, questions you'd like to have answered or if you would like to have your school profiled as a case study in a future edition, please let us know via email to:
